Bleeding Hemorrhoids Signs and Symptoms
Of course, the most common and easily detected symptom of bleeding hemorrhoids is rectal bleeding. However, please be aware that just because rectal bleeding is present, it doesn’t automatically signal bleeding hemorrhoids. As a matter of fact, unless you are absolutely sure of the source of bleeding, it is important that you visit your doctor for a diagnosis. Rectal bleeding can be a sign of a much more serious condition such as colon cancer and is not something to ignore. If self treatment for suspected bleeding hemorrhoids is ineffective and shows no signs of improvement within the first week, contact your physician for an exam just to be sure of the blood source.

Bulging internal bleeding hemorrhoids may swell and push through the anus. These can be very painful. When the anus opening pinches the hemorrhoid it may cut off it’s blood supply. This is called a strangulated hemorrhoid. The pain from this type of hemorrhoid can be extreme and if this condition occurs, it is imperative that urgent medical care be sought immediately.
Most times, small internal bleeding hemorrhoids don’t cause pain and can be treated with a change in diet and lifestyle. There are also over the counter creams that can be used for external hemorrhoids. Once cured, it’s important that patients prevent reoccurrence by eating more fiber and drinking plenty of water to avoid the need to strain to pass stool. Exercise, proper diet and plenty of water are three important ingredients to the prevention of bleeding hemorrhoids.
