Personally, I feel the best foot massager in one that money usually either can’t or doesn’t have to buy.  And definitely for me, something that doesn’t have to be plugged into the wall or rely on batteries is best.  I find electronic vibrations to be the opposite of soothing in the vast majority of cases.  That leaves out most of the foot massagers on the market- what choices are we left with, then?

I prefer the good old (read: ancient) foot massagers of the far east- those paths embedded with pebbles and stones of various shapes, sizes, and sharpness.  My first time on one, I remember thinking it must be a joke or something- surely a sane person with normal feet couldn’t be expected to get across such a painful course willingly?  As time went on and I became more mature, however, I found that the benefits of undertaking this walk of pain made me want to return to the path again and again.  I learned about <a target=”_new” href=”http://hubpages.com/hub/Foot-Massage-for-Pleasure-and-Health”>reflexology</a> and how the little rocks are supposed to stimulate the points in your feet, leaving you healthier and more relaxed, and as my feet both toughened and relaxed with time, I found that the walks were more meditative than painful and I would leave revitalized.

They say the healthier you are, the easier it is to walk across such a path, and I’ve come to see the truth in this.  If you think about it, a strong, healthy foot should be able to conform to the challenges of the massage path.  At the same time, your body weight naturally applies the pressure, which should be appropriate if you’re not grossly overweight (if you are, it’s better to start with a path that will be less challenging to your feet.  I find walking the path helps you to find your balance as you compensate for pain, and serves to tune the way you walk so that your body is held in better balance.  Try it a few times and see, and you might forget all about foot massagers made of plastic which vibrate unpleasantly.
