The More Subtle Benefits of Massage

Does massage assist with muscle recovery? There are plenty of massage therapist out there that will swear on their lives that without a doubt massage will cure you of all of your aches and pains. On the other had there are numerous researchers that will tell you that there is really not much supporting evidence for this claim. Then, the group of people that really know, the massagees usually don’t know for certain but can swear that they love their massages.

There are some major benefits to massage that are pretty inarguable and are really not worth arguing. I believe that if it feels good do it, well, to a point, but we are talking massage here. There is not doubt that massage improves relaxation, reduces anxiety, and elevates mood. If these are the only things that we know for certain this will be enough for some people, athletes included. It is also pretty well proven that massage reduces muscle soreness. If it hurts less than when the masseuse started it is pretty hard to argue with this one as well.

I would argue that if these four benefits are the very least that massage has to offer they enough for me and they can also mean the difference between me getting up in the morning and going to the gym and staying in bed. Elevating mood alone can be responsible for numerous benefits, that could take up the rest of the page. People pay a fortune in drug cost and doctor visits every year just to have their mood elevated artificially. If massage was a natural alternative with a bucket load of possible positive side effects I think it would be worth a shot.

Truth be told massage optimizes muscle recovery and allows people to get more out of their bodies. Not in the same way that feeding your body supplements, vitamins, and healthy food builds. But, it the more intangible harder to measure zen type way optimizes your mind and allows you to enter what athletes call flow.

Massage allows the mind to get the most out of the body and the body to get the most out of the mind. The systems are better optimized to work in sync. I like to think of a good massage as a tune up or scheduled maintenance.

All other health benefits aside the simple relaxation that massage provides is money well spent.
